About Retro Style

How to distinguish retro lamps from vintage ones?

Vintage lamps are original fittings that, even though they are not new, are fashionable because of their attractive design. A sine qua non condition is that they must belong to the era when they were created. In other words, they should have been manufactured at least 20 years ago and their design has to be representative of their time.

They are often confused with retro-style lamps, which are inspired by vintage styles or antique designs, but are created in the present day.

In addition to these two concepts, there is a third, that of antique and classic lamps. In this third case, for an object to be called antique or classic, it must have been created, according to experts, at least 100 years ago.

Thus, retro lamps are mainly different from vintage lamps because, although they are inspired by the past, they are modern creations, unlike vintage lamps, that belong to their own era.

A clear example is the case of tripod floor lamps that are retro by imitating the spotlights that were used in old cinema productions.

The same goes for lamps with filament bulbs that take us back in time and give a retro touch to your lighting.

Similarly, retro-style lamps, as opposed to vintage, adapt the designs of another era to the technological needs of our time.

Despite the above, nowadays these two terms are often used interchangeably in decoration, referring to lamps based on classic designs.
